Officer Duties

President

The President provides overall leadership and promotes the objectives of the organization. This position requires a commitment to the Buffalo Implant Group and its values and an understanding of its purposes, organization and services.

Specific Duties Include:

1. Presiding at all board and Membership meetings
2. Preparing agendas for the conduct of each meeting
3. Representing B.I.G. to the general public, the media and other organizations
4. Keeping current on all matters relating to cochlear implants
5.Explaining cochlear implants and their function to implant candidates and other interested parties
6. Preparing the "President's Message" for each issue of The B.I.G. News
7. Deciding on meeting cancellations, after consulting with other Board members. Announcing same directly or through a designated delegee.
8. Greeting guest speakers and expressing thanks on behalf of the organization
9. A member in good standings.

 


Vice President

The Vice-President acts in the President's absence when he or she is not available, is incapacitated, or indisposed.

Specific Duties Include:

1.Supporting and assisting the President as needed
2.Presiding at Board and Membership meetings in the absence of the President
3.Preparing agendas for the above meetings
4.Cancelling meetings in accordance with established procedures in the absence, or at the request of the President
5.Arranging programs for general meetings and other functions in cooperation with other Board members and volunteers
6.Writing articles for The B.I.G. News, as needed
7. A member in good standings.

 


Secretary

The position of Secretary requires a commitment to the Buffalo Implant Group and its values and an understanding of its purpose, organization and services.

Specific Duties Include:

1. Taking minutes at all Board and Membership meetings
2. Preparing minutes to be typed and e-mailed to all Board members and for publication in The B.I.G. News
3. Sending correspondence on behalf of B.I.G. officers eg. Thank you notes and cards to members and/or non-members, who may donate time/money
4.Keeping a notebook/log of all communications, correspondence and e-mails between Board members, as well as copies of all minutes
5. Being available to explain cochlear implants and their functions to implant candidates and other interested parties
6. A member in good standings.

 


Treasurer

The Treasurer handles the money and physical assets of the group. It shall be the Treasurer's job to ensure that BIG has money to operate as needed, that it is spent in accordance with the wishes of the group, and that it is well-accounted for. The Treasurer shall not spend the money of the group except as approved by the Board or by the membership as a whole. The Treasurer is a signatory on any group bank accounts.

Specific Duties Include:

Record all transactions using Excel..
Responsible for depositing cash and checks into designated bank accounts.
Submits written accounting report at general and board meetings.
Submits CHAR500 and e-postcard to New York State Department of Law – Charities Bureau every May 15th.
Write articles for the Newsletter, if needed
Responsible for Tax Exempt forms
